Re: Halo
I only play the first one and Custom Edition for PC now. I have Halo 3 still, but I never feel like playing it. I guess I'm more into modding the regular one and getting new maps for Custom Edition all the time. I'm making a mod right now, by the way. =P
Re: Halo
Basically doing things like, say, making an Assault Rifle fire rockets, being able to drive from a Warthog's gunner seat or vice versa, changing textures on things, importing objects from other levels (A Covenant tank in Blood Gulch...) or even using a section of a Campaign level model to replace a that of a multiplayer level, and moving weapon/vehicle/teleport/player/other spawns accordingly. >=D
Re: Halo
Sooo I know this topic's pretty much dead and all, but I've been working on the mod for more than a week, and I'm almost to the point where I can play-test it. I'm thinking if all goes well, I can post screenshots and even people who've never played Halo might think it looks pretty cool. >.>
Re: Halo
It might be a few days or so. =/ It's a mod where I replaced the level model with a section of a Campaign level's model, and the process of doing so usually leads to tiny spots of texture being stretched or warped, though not so much that it'd be a big deal, but I finally went in to play-test, and some of the weapons need work, and I found some invisible holes in it, random spots where I fall under the map. I'll have to find a way to plug those up with scenery and stuff, find exactly where each hole begins and ends on all sides to do so, etc. I hate when things like that give me more work to do. >.>
EDIT: However, what I CAN (and WILL) show you are two images from a much less complex mod. Rocket Flamethrower and sniper cliff. >=P

Re: Halo
What I'm working on, yes. The mod in the images, no. Me and my dad used to play mods more all the time, and he requested one based on what we've done before--access to the sniper cliffs, and then driving Warthogs from the gunner seat and vice versa. Then I added a little more after a game or two there, none of that was too much work. By the way, you can see the Gun Turrets on the base, right? =P And I've wanted for a while to make an HTML document full of Halo modding tutorials. Even if no one read them, I think it might be fun to do. But then again, yeah, I dunno anyone who's got the game and planning on learning.
ANOTHER EDIT (I'm referring to the last post's edit, this is the first one of this post): I feel it necessary to add more details about the Flamethrower. In the Blood Gulch caves, it is hidden inside the only rock, because the weapon doesn't recognize its collision geometry, and of course the rock's just the outer shell of it with nothing inside. A grenade near the rock will send it out. It's unaffected by gravity, so it'll drift and you'll have to chase it a bit. Once you have it, it has infinite ammo and never has to reload. But to prevent people from "whoring" with it, it has a relatively quick overheat, so short bursts of rockets (5 rockets fire per shot actually >=D) are recommended. When it overheats, it explodes like a tank shell and kills the owner. The real reason for its no-gravity is that it floats off into space when you die, so your killer can't grab it so easily, he'll have to get it from the rock. And since gravity doesn't affect it, I had it float above the ground inside the rock. It's set to detonate if it hits the ground for the same reason as it going off into space. I r ebil jeanyus. (Am I talking/geeking too much? =P)

Re: Halo
Yes, you are talking/geeking too much. But hey, it's the games forum ;D.
Sounds complicated lmao o-o.
Sounds complicated lmao o-o.
Re: Halo
Well at least I'm not being told to STFU. =P Well, I've covered up all the "holes" I could find in that new mod with scenery. Did some more stuff, and really just gotta place all the weapons and vehicles now and make sure they work properly. =D
Re: Halo
can you make your own weapons? like a flame thrower that you can 'whore', without it overheating?
Re: Halo
I'd need 3DS MAX dexterity to make weapons from scratch. But I can prevent weapons from overheating though.
Re: Halo
I want 3DS Max. I actually have the Black Art Of Halo Mods book just sitting there, collecting dust...tells ya all about how to make maps. Gmax is free, but there's more you have to do, I think. And the tutorials in the book don't really help as much, because they reference directly to 3DS, sooo...yeah. But I'm happy with modding because I know how. =P
Re: Halo
OKAY. I'm TOTALLY done with my mod. (Unless either A: The Wraiths don't blow up, and I can't test that alone too well because I set it to "Only damage while occupied", and the only way to test that would be to stick a plasma grenade to it and then get in, and at its current health setting, that'd take forever. B: There's a host-client issue with the fact that the vehicles were converted to scenery, one large enough that gameplay would be too heavily affected, and I really CAN'T test that alone. Or C: I find more "holes" in the map.) Anywaaaaay here are some piccies. FIVE OF THEM for your viewing pleasure. *immature laugh*
This image is of blue base, taken from a floating Covenant Dropship scenery I put on there. Shows off a nice lineup of vehicles. And that's not even all of them! The orange Wraiths are anti-airs. (Or at least as close to the Halo 3 anti-airs as I can get with my Halo 1 resources. >.>) There are so many 'cause, well, they blow up. And once they die, they'll even RESPAWN dead. Only a new game'll fix 'em. That's also why there's a lot of a certain kind of Warthog. It's a Kamikaze Hog, left click in the driver's seat and it explodes like a nuke. And if you look closely, you might even see some blue lighting effects at the top of the base, too. And those metal panels, formerly used as Campaign doors, are where I found and took care of some "holes". You may also notice a zoomed-out view of the Assault Rifle. I increased the field of view. The default is 1.2-somethingsomethingmoredigitsblah, but I saw on a tutorial that the maximum is 2, so I went with that.
A better view of the vehicle lineup, from a floating Pelican scenery by red base. (Same vehicles, just a better view. Which means it's still not showing all of them!)
Taken from the same spot as Image 2, but looking up a little, to show off the red base light design, because I tried to recreate the BASIC look for the red logo on Death Island's base, and this is Silent Cartographer, as Image 1 proves. The lights don't show up well here, but you can see the basic design OF the basic design. You can tell it's a circle, but it's a circle with a plus inside of it. Nothing super. Kinda like the Pistol's crosshair, but then again, kinda not. I dunno. Whatever. Anyway, this also shows off the Longsword scenery I decided to have float in the sky.
NUKES R FUN AMIRITE?! It came from the weapon I'm holding. The Kamikaze Warthog should do the same. (You also see the Covenant Dropship scenery floating there, completely unaffected.) Also, that explosion was taken from the final Halo cutscene...
I showed off the Covenant Dropship in the last image, so why not the Pelican too? I put flames by its thrusters. On both the Dropship and the Pelican, there's a powerful sniper rifle. Gotta fly up there via Banshee.
SO LIKE, WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?! (Well, any and all who it may concern. >.>)
EDIT: I think an interesting detail to add would be that there are a total of 12 custom vehicles, in addition to 5 of the original 6 (The Rocket Warthog needed to be sacrificed for the Kamikaze Hog to work), and 23 custom weapons, in addition to the original 10. >.>
